Made to Love (The Made Series #1) by Candace Nicole Werts

15 Aug

Carmen is a successful business owner who is young and beautiful. Carmen lives in Arlington, VA. She shares an upscale apartment with her best friends, Marcia and Giselle. Her life should be perfect, but every day she faces guilt due to the murder of her younger sister. This tragic event has controlled her love life. Carmen meets Cooper at a summer party hosted by the company he works for A.Werts. With one look Cooper has her mesmerized. How could this handsome successful business man be without a significant other? Her first encounter with Cooper was discouraging until they shared an earth shattering kiss.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Made to love is the story of Carmen and Cooper. Two polar opposites but yet so right for each other. Though some of their views and opinions about life and living in general differed, they found a way to understand each other…one steamy and chat filled page at a time.
Made to love was an interesting read. It was edgy, current and hip. I loved that Carmen was a strong, beautiful and independent woman who spoke her mind and didn’t let anyone bring her down. She knew what she wanted and she wasn’t scared to go after it.

The story itself was nice, a female with a tragic experience afraid of getting hurt has her heart melted by a man with an almost equally tragic past. Both are afraid of love and commitment but both are the people who need it the most.

“Maybe I do not deserve happiness, but I need her.”- Cooper.

They are attracted to each other and at first after spending time together and that attraction starts to slowly develop into love, it scares them both so much until it seems like their fears might have them pushing each other away.

What I found inspiring and particularly enjoyable was how the Author treated the subject of race and gave us a story that made us all believe and understand that love doesn’t discriminate. When two people love and care for each other none of the small issues like weight, past and colour matter. They just simply fade out into oblivion…leaving only love and mutual respect and understanding.
There are not a lot of books that feature interracial couples and so I was really happy reading this.

As this is erotica I must mention the sex scenes. I usually cringe when I read most erotic novels. So much sex and not enough story or character. But luckily for me that was not the case with this novel.
Made to Love was a page turner because I didn’t have to suffer through page after page of sex and BJs. The scenes were hot but it was good because that was not what the book was all about. Candace Werts didn’t depict the characters as sex starved nymphos who only eat, breath and drink sex. The characters had…well character :D. The Author gave us a story and conversation between two people who shared their experiences with one another and as the story did not happen over a week or a month, it was believable as a love story.
(I can’t stand those books were people meet, bang like rabbits and get married by the end book…after like 9 days of meeting. What the hell right?)

There were some things though that if they were absent I would have given the book a higher rating. Things that got me cursing and irritated at times.
I found that at some points the main character, Carmen, gave descriptions of events with a little too much detail. This included situations where she talked about perfume names, Car models/make, makeup and food like she was strategically doing product placement. I got the same feeling with how she talked about the songs playing in the background.

To sum it all up, Made to Love is a must read for people who believe in second chance and that “love is colour blind”.

Days of Blood & Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor.

9 Aug

Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.

This is not that world.

Art student and monster’s apprentice Karou finally has the answers she has always sought. She knows who she is—and what she is. But with this knowledge comes another truth she would give anything to undo: She loved the enemy and he betrayed her, and a world suffered for it.

MY RATING: 5 Stars

So Laini Taylor does it again in this sequel to Daughter of Smoke & Bone. Her writing is so exceptionally captivating and I found myself almost about to cry by the events in this book. It is a world of devastation and terror, tears and blood. A world where you will find yourself wondering if a time existed when happiness was a thing.
I love how Laini just pulls you in with her words and let’s you feel the pain and emotion of the characters. While at the same time squeezing in some humour and witty conversations that make you smile and sometimes even laugh or just go like “wow”.
For example the passage below, you will see for yourselves 🙂

“Let’s see. You know how, at the end of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet wakes up in the crypt and Romeo’s already dead? He thought she was dead so he killed himself right next to her?”

“Yeah. That was awesome.” A pause, followed by “Ow,” suggested elbow punctuation on the part of Mik.

Karou ignored it. “Well, imagine if she woke up and he was still alive, but…” She swallowed, waiting out a tremor in her voice. “But he had killed her whole family. And burned her city. And killed and enslaved her people.”

That is how most of the book is…just amazing.

The Seraph and the Chimaera are still battling it out and its more pain and heartbreak for our dear Karou as the age old war continues.

It is war like you have never read it, or heard of it. You will cry, curse, scream and drop down to your knees asking “why? Oh why is this happening? but at the same time you will just continue reading, hoping and praying that the sun will shine through the darkness and Karou and Akiva will eventually find their way back to each other.

From the bottom of my hurting and hopeful heart I would just like to say Laini Taylor is a Goddess among mere humans. I really enjoyed this and hope those who haven’t read it up to now will enjoy it too.

Wicked nights (Angels of the dark #1) by Gena Showalter

Wicked nights

MY RATING: 5/5 Stars

Brief Spoiler Free Synopsis (Goodreads)
Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless — and if he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions at any cost…until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he’s never known before.

Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation — or her ultimate damnation?

Before we even go any further, I should say what first drew me the book was the cover, yeah I know, not a good practice because of the whole “Do not judge a book by its cover” thing.
But I really did not know what to expect with this book, it being my first Gena Showalter book and all and well my first Angel novel to read after Daughter Of Smoke And Bone. I do love paranormal romance just as much as the next person but I always felt “weirded out” reading about angels in love. Well as you can see not anymore.

I was hooked to the book from page one, and that was like just the prologue and it just kept getting better and better.

I loved that the female Character was not some wuss, but a total bad ass. Sassy, Feisty and would not take shit from , let anyone boss her around. Ah my new role model, I wish I was like that.

I really loved how the conversations seemed to make me laugh and enjoy the book even more, the two of them were really good together.

“You know, you’re pretty when you smile,” she said, patting the side of his cheek.
“Fierce, woman. I am fierce.”
“If you say so.”

See what I mean? 😀 I don’t know why but I love such conversations.

Now for the not so angelic thoughts, is it bad that I found myself fantasizing about a winged character, a totally hot winged character? Well at first of course I thought he was a bit too cold and all but I still liked him. By the time he started “thawing” a bit, I really really really liked him.
This is my expression when he started acting and being all Mr.-I-Can-Get-You-To-Do-What-I-want

fanning self

Yeah, I guess its bad of me to love a book just because the guy is one hot piece of man Candy, well I guess you can have me arrested or something.

At this point I can not wait for the next book, or to just read anything by Gena. I think I will like all her work.

Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer. L. Armentrout

Opal lux book 3

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it

So after I finished reading Onyx.. I could hardly wait to start with Opal. The anticipation was crazy and as soon as onyx was done, BANG, Opal was in my hands again.

Breath Dee, Breath. Okay for this one, I just could not handle it. I was literally bleeding emotion and I thought I was going to go crazy at the end. (okay I kind of did).

calm down

I could go on and on and on and on and on (you get the idea) and talk about how I felt reading this book, but it is a case where “I can show you better than I can tell you” just has to apply. So here goes. My reactions and thoughts as I read this book from beginning to end.

Page one, cancel all appointments and get sucked in the book 🙂

This could not get any better, but it did. It was Ian Somerhalder perfect and then some.

It got me smiling like a goofball

laughing like a retard

Crying like a baby

Fantasizing about Daemon Black

And at the end of it all I thought I would not survive the awesomeness. It was just amazing.

Now once I reached the end, I was like “Jen, don’t do this to me..this can not be the end.I want to know what happens next.”

It can’t end like this, It just can’t and then I was crying again. For real I did cry, for Daemon and for katy.

crying celebrity

It was just too much.
After I realized that was the end and that I wasn’t just missing some pages. I guess I was depressed for a while. It was great that people were staying out of my way.

This is not happening, breath Dee, breath. I feel light headed my poor heart could not take it.

Then I thought about maybe paying the author a visit just so I could know what happens next. You know, try and persuade her into giving me a sneak peek at her draft or manuscript or whatever he has. I want to know. NOW

But of course, I am all the way in Africa and right now i can not afford buss fare to go to the capital so there is no way I can “visit” the author. So not going to happen.

So here I am, patiently waiting for the next book to come out and until then I do not know what I am going to do.

So that is that, I hope you have better lick handling this book than I did. It is like a curse, you are just bound to love it once you start.

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer. L. Armentrout

cover 2

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! And I thought Obsidian was an amazing book, this is the cherry on top of the cake, the light at the end of the tunnel, the thing at the end of the rainbow and a lining on the clouds. I KNOW, I KNOW I am not making any sense. But that is what this book has done to me. If you did not read the first one in the series ,please go and start reading right away and as soon as you are done PLEASE, start reading this one.

It is breathtaking, face fanning, lip biting, nail eating, mood changing, insomnia causing and absolutely a great read. I love it.
Seriously I am in love, like totally going gaga, 100% love struck. Crazy I know, seeing that this is a book. But its the truth.

Most people would be upset at the sexual tension and unending sexual frustration that this book may or may not have.I am not one to give out spoilers (I hate spoilers), but this book will have you wishing you had a smoking hot alien for a neighbor.

All through out my reading, I kept on thinking “Damn, Jennifer how do you come up with this stuff…PERFECTION”.

okay I will try out something a little different here, you know since I am still experimenting with this blog. let me do a 10 reasons why you should read this book.

try something new

1. It will make you feel things you have never felt before

2. It is a gift from up above and not reading it would be like a huge SCREW YOU and just plain mean

3. It is just that amazing

4. Daemon Black is the 8th wonder of the world and you would be missing out by not trying to know him

5. Do it for the love of baby aliens everywhere

6. It is what all good paranormal young adult novels should be and if you love YA, you should read this.

7. An alien from Lux will torch you if you resist reading this (I am not kidding)

8. Douchebagery never felt so good

9. You get an inside look at the awesomeness that aliens bring forth (No, not tentacles and and big green heads..eew)

10. Jennifer. L. Armentrout is a great author and you will enjoy her work (Trust me)

Looking at the reasons, they seem kind of silly don’t they? But hey, you get what I am getting at. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1) by Laini Taylor

5 Feb

Daughter of smoke and bone

“Once upon a time, an angel and a demon fell in love. It did not end well”

Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherworldly war.

After my sister recommended this book to me, I had no choice but to read it because she has that great a taste in books and I just had to trust her. I always do. Of course it turned out that she was right and I was just so hooked, couldn’t stop reading until I was that intense.

The story follows Karou, an art student who fills up her sketch book with monsters and all her friends her “wowed” each time she shows them. The monsters obviously are real but her friends just think she has an overactive imagination, being an artist and all.

Of course like with every Young adult novel out there, you should expect a ridiculously hot and sexy guy as the love interest and boy does Akiva deliver. This guy is so hot, it should be illegal and I am sure it is in some countries because he would cause road accidents just by crossing the road. Or even cause death because you can just stop breathing just from looking at him. That attractive yes. *Fans herself* It was funny how people reacted to his attractiveness. I am still laughing. lol

If that is not enough to make you want to read this then maybe this will do, when I started the book, I literally lost interest in anything else (well maybe except calling and texting my boyfriend and all that “lovie-dovie” stuff). You know when a book is so good and the weather outside is just perfect so you get under the sheets and just do nothing but enjoy it. And each time someone talks to you, you almost get upset like you can just bite their head off for disturbing your happy time? Yeah, I was practically acting like a weirdo when reading this book. Well more than the weirdo I am, that is

The great thing about this book and one thing you should note is Laini Taylor’s way of writing, she is so good it is crazy. Not only does she bring out every emotion out of you at just the right moment but she also invites you into her world, imagining everything just as close to what she set out as possible. She has a way with words that just leave you thinking “Wow, why can’t I write stuff like that?”.
I especially loved how she defined love, not as a luxury but as an element.

“Love is an element. Like air to breath, earth to stand on”

That was just beautiful, well for me at least and that is probably because I am a sucker for love.

I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who loves Fantasy young adult because it is that good.

Now it is on to the second one because I can not wait to find out what happens next.

Things I know About Love – Kate le Vann

1 Feb

cover - Copy

“Things I Know About love
1.People don’t always tell you the truth about how they feel.
2.Nothing that happens between two people is guaranteed to be private.
3.I don’t know if you ever get over having your heart broken”

Absolutely beautiful and tear dropping story. It is rare for a book to get me this emotional, wanting to laugh, cry, smile and talk all at the same time but this one sure did. I found myself falling in love with the characters as the story progressed. Not only that but from the first page I kept saying “Okay, that is totally me” because I kept relating to her fears and seeing bits and pieces of myself, how I talk and act, in the main character’s behavior. It was funny and comforting at the same time.
Reading this book you will follow Livia Stowe on her Journey from England to America as she sets out to have the most memorable summer of her life. She writes a blog about her many experiences and all the while trying to find out about love. From first boyfriends, to untrustworthy evil heartbreaking jerks who should be punched to really lovable, good looking, funny crushes and ultimately finding true love, the story just takes you in.
Livia is truly an amazing girl, one that you just have to like, I know I did. She is funny, cool in her own way, witty and just plain adorable as you get to know her. And though life is a bit challenging for her, considering her situation, she still does not let it get to her or stand in her way of being happy and making those around her happy as well. Even if it means faking a smile once in a while and pretending all is well most of the time.
After reading this you will undoubtedly also feel as I did and end up loving the book.
Truly wonderful read, I don’t know how Kate le Vann did it, oh yeah she is a well-established author, so DUH. Totally worth the hours I spent reading it, which if I might add were’nt alot because it is such a quick read.

A great site
